Hi,
Probably the most favourite subject between audiophiles around the world is the on-going "fight" between analogue and digital. Since the introduction of the CD in 1982 and after some years of the digital predominance, digital seems to have hit the technological roof and analogue is making a strong come back in the last 10 years. Personally all over these years I have made my comparisons with various material and I have concluded them in a paper at http://aca.gr/rec05_skal1.htm
But some people were telling me that my old Wadia 8/15 pair was technologically outdated and so the comparison was not fair, so I decided to organize in my listening room a blind test between a top digital (whatever that means...) and my analogue gear, with lots of people invited...
See the rest of this very interesting IMHO story here:
- http://aca.gr/event08-9.htm (with lots of pictures and 10 videoclips covering the event).
I hope you enjoy it...
PS Sorry, I do not speak German!

Hi Christos,
thanks for your interesting review. However I think most of the people here are only interested in loudspeakers, home cinema or digital stuff...

Yes but... these are the people I am interested in and these are the people I invited to this test...
To let them hear with their own ears, what is reality and what is false...
Cheers

Hello,
very interesting test.
But the test was not a "Blind Test" so the participant know what their are listen...
So the result ist not very significant.
Another point is the Price...
In my opinion is the sound differnce between a 500€ CD-Player and a 5000€ CD-Player very small.
But if you want to have a sound like a 500€ CD Player from an venyl, you must spen a lot of money for the venyl-player, the phone amp....
Sorry for my bad english
Greetings
Nils

guys, u should mention those Greek Audio guys have like 20-30 years experience in listening to "their" Music.
Its impossible to compare today "HiFi" expectations with those "oldschool" Vinyl Fans, they modified their setups "step by step" for like 20 years and more...
I am shure all of you "younger" Music/Cinema-lovers would be surprised, what a good Stereo setup is able to give his owner.
But for shure ...this is regardless of price..
If you have a 30 year Hobby and invest like 3000 Euro per year, you easily end up with a 90000 Euro setup...
Maybe we should try a time machine and see what some HomeCinema Fans invest within the next 10 or 20 years...
So for me, i am an "oldschooler" aswell, but i am using my experience to give the new/young audiophiles the best value for money, its a pleasure to see what those Greek Audiophiles invest into their Hobby.
And yes, some of them make me smile... Audiophile Nerds
Btw: maybe some of ACA can visit us in Mannheim, when they are in Germany and I invite you to listen to a 3000 Euro Stereo setup and tell us their opinion on the result.
Maybe we have some Greek customers then ...

So manfred, you write what i mean... But your english ist quiet better then my
I have listen to many stereo setups und i compare CD between vinyl...
Vinyl can be better, or the listener enjoy it more than a CD...
But you must spend a lot of money for this result...
If you buy a 08/15 Venyl Player for 500€, the result is "out of the Box" not very good in my opinion...
So if the test means: Vynil can be better: OK, thats possible
But the price is very high
Hope you understand what i mean.

I don´t think so. In my opinion and for my musical taste a 500€ turntable can be much better as a 2000€ digital player. But perhaps it´s all about taste, musical preferences and not at all: experience.

old discussion dont compare apples and oranges...
Some Lps have better Sound bcause they are simply better meastered and som CD transfers by "Soundenginieers" were fucked up by adding "effects" or simply Equalizing...
my own subective opinion:
ANY LP is way more sexy to use and its like driving an old Jaguar (pre 70s) and compare it to a brand new one ... its fucked up today ...
simplicity isnt all u need in Life...
that was the reason i worked with Simon Yorke... i liked his attitude...
